At last the question will be answered (or attempted at least), what is postmodernism? What the heck is this thing? Well one aspect of it, is that it’s a bunch of stories or meta-narratives that try to explain why certain things are the way they are. It gets away from the modernist notion that science will be able to solve everything, or that science will find the meaning of life. Postmodernism embraces the fact that there is no universal truth; no truth that EVERYONE can agree upon. This is true. There is no such thing as one belief that every single person can latch onto and make that their life’s purpose (well not yet at least… I’ll come up with it one day but as for now, I’m still workin on it. ) Postmodernism also really emphasizes that different cultures have different views about things and that a person is not limited to one belief system or way of life. You could be Jewish, that embraces Buddhism’s teachings, while believing in the Muslim version of heaven (72 virgins) and that makes you, you. Postmodernism stresses individuality not conformity or universality. “Postmodern people are inclined to see the world as a kind of carnival of cultures”, where one belief ends, the other begins in this sort of overlapping mosaic. Diversity is beautiful and being different is not a bad thing; once everyone begins to see things in that light, we will all be in a better place. It also stresses objectivity, but as we all have come to realize, this is a very difficult task. Almost everything that is done, ever, will be subjective. We should also consider the Other point of view(s). We should not be so narrow-minded and set in stone in our beliefs as to where we don’t even reflect on Other thoughts. Well that’s my (subjective) view of postmodernism, it might be off a bit, but I can’t find the right words to finish this sentence.
Oh well, goodbye Postmodernism.

very well said Aman. I like how you began by describing postmodernism in the fact that it rebuttals the fact that there is an ultimate truth to everything. I also agree with how you moved on to say that postmodernism embraces different cultures, ideas, and people, and how you linked such to individuality rather than universality. "Postmodernism stresses individuality not conformity or universality." very good way to support your expressions. Moreover, just as the quote you used i believe that is exactly coreect, postmodernism is a big carnival of cultures. the fact that you tied in religion, and race, ethnicity, and made it clear that the postmodernism view on that is if you like it then embrace it or do it, so you have the ability to choose what you want, and you should do so in the eyes of postmodernist thinkers.
ReplyDeleteWell, Your blogg was pretty good. It wasn't really saying anything that wasn't obvious. But you expressed one of the many things postmodernism questions. Now to answer all the many questions you have regarding my blog. First Off I do not have any theory of bull***tivity, The fact the you imagine me having one is just BS.I do not feel that everything is BS. But everything that we socially believe and make out of thin air to be an untruth. Something that only exist because people make it exist. I think that the word BS appeals to you in an emotional way that it does not to me. Instead of the word BS pretend I use the word phoma or harmful untruths. If I use that word I now sound like a famous author. Right?? Why IDK. Anyways, I see that you are one of those people who think life has some kind of purpose. Some truth. You joke about forming your own meaning of life that is true and right that everyone can believe. I for one won't be one of those followers. Why do you feel life has some purpose. What compels you to belief that everything happens for a reason. Why are things that are pointless bad?? EATING, sleeping, I do it because we need it to live. And because I can. Not because it is my purpose in life. I just don't see why you feel life has a point. But that is the untruth you follow and I respect it. I just wish you would look at things at a larger scale and witness the different things this world contains. The different cultures and social etiquette. Only then will your feeble mind be able to see all this want of purpose we make out of something that may be purposeless.
